Meet Maddie, a senior at Michigan State University majoring in Media and Information with a concentration in Human-Centered Technology. As an intern at MeetYourClass through the Digital Summer Clinic, Maddie found networking to be a significant aspect of her experience. She reflects on the experiences she had connecting with individuals from various schools, company mentors, and guest speakers. This opportunity not only enhanced her ability to communicate effectively within her field and in marketing but also taught her the importance of professionalism.
One of the key highlights of Maddie’s internship was collaborating with other UX designers through the clinic to complete work. This experience improved her collaborative skills as well as provided valuable insights into professional communication. Maddie learned to advocate for herself and her work, developing a strong voice in the process.
Maddie faced and overcame various workplace challenges during her internship, such as learning to ask task-oriented questions and understanding marketing tactics. She also valued the opportunity to bounce ideas off her intern partner, further enhancing her learning experience. A notable project Maddie worked on was redoing a pitch deck for a conference. This project allowed her to apply her skills in a practical setting and contributed to her growth.
