The CDE clinic is different than all other internships because of the support. The team meetings provided an opportunity to get feedback and ask peers for solutions to your challenges.

The CDE Summer Internship Clinic is sometimes hard to understand from an outside perspective.  Nick Woods, 2018 alumni, is the first to say that he had no idea what he was getting himself into…in a great way. “The more I learned about it, the more potential I saw in it,” he explained.

Nick applied for the internship after it was recommended to him by his professor, and clinic director, Bud Gibson.  After getting into the clinic, it was easy to see why Nick thought this experience was transformative. “Doing this internship was one of the best decisions I’ve made in my entire life,” Nick shared.  The marketing major worked with the genetics database company Genomenon doing a lot of search ads and email marketing. Nick also got the opportunity to do some sales at the beginning of his internship, but gradually phased out of it.

Not only did Nick do his internship with Genomenon, but he also was hired full time!  His title quickly transitioned from marketing intern to marketing associate, and finally marketing specialist.  It was the opportunity he got at Genomenon that eventually led him to his current position at iProspect, doing paid search and social ads. “We’re entering an age where digital marketing is expanding like crazy,” Nick explained. “I found it very easy to get a job with my experience.”

The clinic experience offers tech certifications, panels with business leaders, and is a lot more than just a job.  “The CDE clinic is different than all other internships because of the support,” Nick said. “The team meetings provided an opportunity to get feedback and ask peers for solutions to your challenges.”  Between the panel of business leaders and other interns in the clinic, there are plenty of opportunities to share ideas.

Nick’s three words of advice are simple–network, network, network!  “You may not have the proper work experience, but if you know the right people you can go far,” he said.  “You’re given 10 hours per week…make the most of them.” Make the most of your summer by applying for the CDE Summer Internship Clinic!  Check out the website at digitalsummer.clinic to learn more.
