Brandon

I was able to get my feet wet in just about everything. I’ve worked on graphic design, email campaigns, social media postings, and even landing pages.

-Brandon, 2017

Do you want to work with real clients, and deliver real results?  That’s exactly the experience Brandon Lazovic had when he was a part of the Center for Digital Engagement’s Summer Clinic.  The public relations and journalism graduate was looking for an experience that would prepare him for the workforce, and that’s exactly what the clinic did.

Brandon began his career as a writer, working on the news editing team for the Eastern Echo.  Soon, he realized he wanted more than hard news reporting experience. After graduation, Brandon was recommended to the clinic by alumni Nina Drumsta.  His experience was a unique one–Brandon worked with two companies during the 8-week internship.

By working with both ClariLegal, a cloud-based project management software, and DistinguishMe, a college preparatory service, Brandon was able to diversify his skill set.  “I was able to get my feet wet in just about everything,” Brandon shared. “I’ve worked on graphic design, email campaigns, social media postings, and even landing pages.”

Now, Brandon is working as an SEO Manager at Quicken Loans in Detroit, MI.  One of the most valuable things that he’s used in his career is simply the presentation experience from the clinic.  “Learning how to use PowerPoint and presenting is a skill that will serve you well,” Brandon explained.

Even the blog posts that are done during the clinic provide value to the students.  Brandon has kept up with his blog to this day, and has even expanded his personal brand into starting a podcast!  “My website was a huge factor in me getting a job,” Brandon explained. “It grows both your personal and professional brand.”  That is exactly what the clinic aims to do–set you up for success.

Some final words of wisdom from Brandon; always stay hungry.  “Marketing is always changing, and there is always room to grow,” Brandon said.  By taking advantage of the clinic’s certification options, blogging opportunities, and networking events, interns are able to stay on top of their game when they enter the workforce. This is exactly what Brandon did.
